Celtics trade target moved to Pacers in blockbuster deal (report)

The Clippers sold at the deadline, trading Ivica Zubac to the Pacers in a blockbuster deal. The Clippers are sending Zubac and Kobe Brown to Indiana. In return, the Pacers parted ways with Bennedict Mathurin, Isaiah Jackson, two first-round picks and one second-round pick, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Zubac was reported to be linked to the Celtics in trade rumors. There’s a lot to like about Zubac when it comes to fit and age, which is also likely why the Pacers felt compelled to trade for the big man. But the Celtics’ offer didn’t entice the Clippers, who got a haul from Indiana in the deal.

The rumors were before the C’s landed Nikola Vucevic from the Bulls in exchange for Anfernee Simons. On the Pacers’ side, they get a talented big man in Zubac to pair with Tyrese Haliburton when he’s back from his Achilles injury.

The Clippers have sold off multiple pieces at this deadline, including guard James Harden. They got former All-Star guard Darius Garland in return, though he’s been hurt throughout the season.

Los Angeles had a miserable start to the season at 6-21. But the Clippers turned it around and have a 23-27 record. After these deadline deals, though, it looks like the Clippers are looking to build toward the future.
