Liverpool could have a big decision to make regarding the player’s long-term future at Anfield

Liverpool have a tough test coming up this weekend against Manchester City. They will need to be at their best if they are to get anything against Pep Guardiola’s side. Arne Slot’s men are sat in 6th place in the Premier League table after 24 fixtures.

They are hoping to get into the top four and secure Champions League football again. The Merseyside giants beat Newcastle United 4-1 last time out. Therefore, they should be feeling confident ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Liverpool update regarding Harvey Elliott’s situation at Aston Villa

Aston Villa insiders have nothing but ‘positive’ things to say about Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott, says journalist James Pearce. The winger is on loan at Villa Park but has struggled for game time. The Midlands outfit have to sign him for £35million if he reaches 10 appearances this season.

Elliott, 22, has only played seven times so far under Unai Emery. He is in limbo right now and his long-term future is up in the air. Nevertheless, he has featured in their last two outings though against Red Bull Salzburg and Brentford.

In this latest update regarding his situation, reporter Pearce has said, as per TalkSPORT: “I really feel for Harvey Elliot because you know you speak to people at Villa and they’ve only got positive things to say about him in terms of his attitude and application in training every day.

“It’s just really unfortunate that for whatever reason Emery doesn’t seem to fancy him, doesn’t want Villa to have to pay the 35 million pounds that’s written into the agreement if he plays 10 or more appearances for Villa this season. So he’s stuck in limbo.”

What now for Harvey Elliott at Liverpool?

Elliott remains under contract at Liverpool until 2027 he if returned from Aston Villa this summer. He has been with his parent club since 2019. Prior to his switch to the North West, he rose up through the academy at Fulham and broke into their first-team as a youngster.

The Reds initially loaned him out to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship to get some experience under his belt. He then forced his way into the senior picture and has since played 149 games altogether, scoring 15 goals, five of which came last term as they won the title under Slot. He was given the green light to link up with Villa last year but things haven’t worked out for him.

Emery said in December: "We are speaking with him and about his situation. He is not here with us. First, my decision and also the situation. He is on loan playing with us, but he is not definitely adding to us with a permanent contract.

"Hopefully we can get the best for him and the best for us. I respect him as a player and as a person. He is training well, but we have one circumstance with him. Hopefully we can get a solution for him to try to play consistently and try to continue in his career with us or not.”
