The team decided to let Thomas find a new home after being unable to work out a trade before the February 5 deadline.
Thomas had reportedly drawn interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks, but no deal was reached.
He would have become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after picking up his qualifying offer last year.
This season, Thomas is averaging 15.6 points (39.9% FG, 32.5% 3PT), 1.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 24 games.
The 22-year-old has spent all five of his NBA seasons with the Nets after being selected 27th overall in the 2021 draft.
