Report: Nets cut ties with Cam Thomas after failing to find NBA trade deadline suitor

ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Thursday that the Brooklyn Nets have waived shooting guard Cam Thomas.

"The Brooklyn Nets are waiving Cam Thomas, allowing the scoring guard to enter free agency, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on X. "The Nets made the decision to allow Thomas to find a new home."

Rumors indicated that the Nets were shopping the fifth-year guard, but the Eastern Conference team could not find a trade suitor. The 3 p.m. EST deadline came and went, and Thomas is now eligible to sign with any team that has an open roster spot.

Why the Nets couldn't find a trade partner for Thomas

Indicating by the Nets' decision to waive Thomas, they feel it's best to move on from the 24-year-old and help him find a better fit. Several teams could be in the market for a scoring-minded threat who averages 15.2 points per game for his career.

Injuries are a concern for the 27th overall pick in the 2021 draft. A left hamstring strain in November kept Thomas off the court for nearly eight weeks.

Thomas has yet to exceed more than 67 games played in a single season, making just 25 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.
