Cam Thomas sends immediate message after being waived by Nets

The final move of Thursday’s NBA trade deadline wasn’t a trade at all. Instead, the Brooklyn Nets made the unexpected decision to waive dynamic scorer Cam Thomas in what appeared to be a mutually agreed-upon move.

Thomas spent the past five seasons in Brooklyn and flashed elite scoring ability throughout his time with the franchise, at times looking like a potential building block for the future.

However, defensive limitations and inconsistent decision-making ultimately led to an uneven role and a lack of long-term clarity with the team.

Moments after news of his release became official, Thomas shared an immediate message that seemed directed at his next team — whoever that may be — outlining what he believes he brings to the table.

“Super excited, ready to actually help and contribute to another team,” Thomas wrote. “My next team is getting elite scoring, good playmaking, and a good combo guard.”

This season, Thomas averaged 15.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 39.9 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc.

His best individual seasons came in 2023 and 2024, when he posted back-to-back scoring averages of 22.5 and 24.0 points per game.

Thomas should now be one of the most sought-after names on the buyout market in the coming days — particularly for teams in need of an offensive spark at the guard position.
