Milwaukee Bucks Become the Third Team to Trade For Ousmane Dieng in Just 24 Hours

The Milwaukee Bucks did make a move at the trade deadline, although it did not involve Giannis Antetokounmpo. Despite reports from Shams Charania that made it seem like an Antetokounmpo move at the February 5th deadline was inevitable, Bucks fans instead are digesting a much more low-key deal. The team is adding veteran Nigel Hayes-Davis and young wing Ousmane Dieng, who has had a wild 24 hours in the league. The Bucks are his fourth NBA team since yesterday, but with the deadline passed, he’s now set to stay in Milwaukee.

Ousmane Dieng Settling With Milwaukee Bucks After Wild Trade Deadline

Yesterday, Ousmane Dieng was a member of the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The former 11th-overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft has spent most of his NBA career with the G-League Oklahoma City Blue, although he did appear in almost 40 games last year for OKC en route to their NBA Championship. Dieng even played one minute in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

24 hours later, Dieng has been traded a whopping three times. On February 4th, Oklahoma City sent Dieng to Charlotte in exchange for veteran center Mason Plumlee. Just hours later, the Hornets added Dieng to a package including Collin Sexton and three second-round draft picks, which were sent to Chicago in exchange for Coby White and Mike Conley.

At the February 5th deadline, Chicago added themselves to a swap between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns, giving Milwaukee Dieng in exchange for Phoenix’s Nick Richards. Dieng concluded a wild 24-hour period by finally settling with Milwaukee.

While it has no doubt been a wild experience for Dieng to be traded so many times in such a short amount of time, it has happened before in the NBA history as recently as last year. Veteran point guard Dennis Schröder, who funnily enough was also traded during this season, was involved in three trades in 24 hours last year. After being involved in the Jimmy Butler deal, Schröder was promptly dealt by Miami to Utah before finally landing in Detroit.

Dieng had appeared in 27 games for OKC before being traded. He is now joining a Bucks team in urgent need of reversing their losing ways. With Antetokounmpo set to be around for at least the rest of the season, head coach Doc Rivers will be hoping Dieng can contribute to the team’s turnaround.
