Miami is unconvinced to go after Morant due to the Grizzlies star's contract and troubling injury history.
After everything that happened ahead of the final buzzer of this season's NBA trade deadline, Ja Morant still apparently remained in the Memphis Grizzlies.
Miami Heat / Schedule
The Grizzlies have desperately canvassed the market, but there hasn't been any significant interest in their franchise guard. Following the unforeseen Jaren Jackson Jr. mega deal with the Utah Jazz, expectations were high that Morant would be the next domino to fall.
Instead, the embattled star will spend the rest of the 2025-26 season on a Grizzlies jersey and will embrace the team's tanking out of a looming full-scale rebuild. Morant finds himself the only core player left in this era.
There were several teams that have been linked to Morant, but nothing materialized. As such, no other ball club has been more prominently connected to the four-time All-Star than the Miami Heat.
But as it is, the Heat have been completely hesitant to acquire Morant due to his well-known issues.
"The Heat had enough interest in Memphis guard Ja Morant to make an initial call to the Grizzlies weeks ago. But they didn’t have enough interest to try to trade for him. Per a source, the Heat discussed Morant internally but decided not to pursue a trade because of myriad factors, including his contract and a history of injuries," per Miami Herald's Barry Jackson.
"Morant has not played more than 67 games in any of his six seasons because of injuries and suspensions. He has appeared in nine and 50 games the previous two seasons and just 20 this season, as he’s now sidelined by an elbow injury."
