Famous host mistakenly said ‘rest in peace’ to NBA figure who is still alive

Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd made a huge gaffe during his show “The Herd” on Thursday, saying someone had died who is still alive.

During a segment of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” the topic focused on the Golden State Warriors and whether their championship window with guard Steph Curry was closing. Cowherd used the Chicago Bulls when he made his mistake.

“The Bulls had Michael Jordan and Jerry Reinsdorf, rest in peace, came out and said, ‘OK, this is the last run,’” Cowherd said via Awful Announcing. “That’s why they made the documentary. This is it... All right. Start over.”

The problem was Cowherd had his Jerrys mixed up. Jerry Reinsdorf, the team’s owner, is still alive at 89. However, Jerry Krause, the Bulls’ Basketball Hall of Fame general manager who was in the role from 1985 to 2003, died in 2017 at 77.

Krause received a lot of the blame for breaking up the Bulls and was not depicted in the best light in “The Last Dance” documentary, with Jordan and forward Scottie Pippen criticizing him. Reinsdorf has also been criticized for not spending the money necessary to try to keep the team together and, in later years, for not investing in the Bulls’ success.
