Contrary to initial reports, it appears that Porzingis won't make his Dubs debut on Saturday.
Steve Kerr told reporters Thursday that Kristaps Porzingis' Golden State Warriors debut is about to come sooner.
As such, he doesn't envision Porzingis playing on Saturday, as the Dubs will face the Los Angeles Lakers on the road.
"I wouldn’t expect him to play Saturday, but he’ll be with us and hopefully soon thereafter," Kerr told reporters.
Upon initial reports, there were expectations that Porzingis could perhaps finally wear a Golden State uniform this weekend.
In the end, the wait continues for Warriors fans. Porzingis was acquired by the team ahead of the NBA trade deadline, sending Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks.
Porzingis hasn't played since Jan. 7 as he's been dealing with Achilles issues. He is already in the final stages of his recovery.
This 2025-26 outing is relatively challenging for the Latvian star, as injuries kept him from playing just 17 games. He is averaging 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.
But Kerr made it clear that the Warriors did everything right to assess Porzingis' health and eventually pull the trigger.
"When he’s right, he’s a hell of a player," Kerr said about Porzingis. "We’re looking at a guy who really fits what we need — size, space, shooting, rim protection. Every team needs that, but we’ve always needed that since I’ve been here. We’ve never really had a player quite like him."
