Liverpool cut ties with a fair few players ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season
Liverpool came into this season in good spirits after winning the Premier League title in the last campaign. However, things haven’t gone to plan for them since then. The Reds find themselves down in 6th place in the table after 24 fixtures.
Arne Slot remains in charge at Anfield and is looking to help them get into the Champions League again this term. He was picked as their replacement for Jurgen Klopp back in 2024. Prior to his move, he caught the eye in Holland at Feyenoord.
What has happened to the players who left Liverpool last summer?
Liverpool cut ties with a fair few players last summer. Luis Diaz was a big name exit from the Reds back in late July. Bayern Munich lured him over to Germany to bolster their attacking department and he has since scored 15 goals in 29 games in all competitions, 10 of which have come in the Bundesliga.
Darwin Nunez was sold to Al-Hilal in the Middle East after three years in England. The Uruguay international has since found the net on seven occasions in 22 outings. However, he is now being heavily linked with a switch to Fenerbahce in Turkey.
Winger Ben Gannon-Doak’s transfer to AFC Bournemouth hasn’t quite gone to plan yet. He is currently sidelined with an injury and he hasn’t been able to make the impact he would have hoped to with the Cherries. Nevertheless, he is still young and has plenty of time on his side.
Liverpool sold centre-back Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen last July. Prior to his exit, he played 58 matches for his former team and scored three times. He has since adapted well to life abroad and has become a key first-team player with his current club.
As for goalkeeper Caomhin Kelleher, he has made the number one spot his own at Brentford. He has flourished under the guidance of Keith Andrews in London. Leaving the Reds for the Bees has worked out well for him and he is getting consistent game time.
Former Liverpool players catching the eye elsewhere
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s exit from Liverpool to Real Madrid was a big story throughout last year. The right-back has since found it hard to adapt to life with the La Liga giants. His long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu is up in the air right now.
Tyler Morton’s move to Lyon has worked out well for him. He decided to part ways with his boyhood club and test himself abroad. The midfielder has since made 28 outings and scored twice from the middle of the park.
Defender Nat Phillips was snapped up by West Brom on a permanent basis after his loan at Derby County. The Baggies are struggling in the Championship right now though. They are inside the bottom three with Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday and may slip into League One if they aren’t careful.
Harvey Elliott is in limbo amid his uncertain situation at Aston Villa. They have to sign him permanently for £35million if he hits 10 appearances. As a result, they are starving him of minutes and he has had to endure a frustrating spell in the Midlands.
Finally, Konstantinos Tsimikas was given the green light to head out the exit door by Liverpool. He was deemed surplus to requirements after the arrival of Milos Kerkez. The 29-year-old has since played 18 matches for Roma on loan, 12 of which have come in Serie A.
