Mavericks plans for Khris Middleton revealed

The Dallas Mavericks have confirmed they won’t waive Khris Middleton after acquiring him from the Washington Wizards. The three-time All-Star is expected to provide scoring and leadership off the bench, joining Tyus Jones, Marvin Bagley III, Klay Thompson, and Brandon Williams in the second unit.

The Dallas Mavericks have revealed how they plan to use Khris Middleton after acquiring him in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards. Dallas sent Anthony Davis, D'Angelo Russell, Jaden Hardy, and Dante Exum to Washington in exchange for Middleton, Marvin Bagley III, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, and five future draft picks. Branham was later moved to the Charlotte Hornets for Tyus Jones.

Dallas Mavericks / Schedule

Middleton, a three-time All-Star, is expected to provide scoring and leadership for the Mavericks' second unit. Some predicted he might be bought out, but that won't happen.

"Khris Middleton isn't being bought out and should make his debut for the Mavs on Saturday at San Antonio," reported ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel on X.

The 34-year-old guard/forward averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 34 games with the Wizards this season. While injuries have slowed him in recent years, Middleton remains a reliable shooter and a capable defender.

Middleton will join Tyus Jones, Marvin Bagley III, Klay Thompson, and Brandon Williams in the Mavericks' second unit. He is also expected to mentor rookie Cooper Flagg, whose role has grown with Davis gone and Kyrie Irving sidelined with an ACL injury.

Mavericks interim general manager Michael Finley stressed the importance of injecting a "winning culture" into the team after the trade.
