Former Arsenal and Liverpool star to finally join Celtic after transfer 'stall'

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 32, has been without a club since leaving Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas in August last year.

But a new report has linked the player, who has been training with Arsenal in recent months, to a short-term contract with Celtic.

The midfielder appeared to face a roadblock this week after reports indicated that discussions had stalled.

The delay was believed to be over contract length, with Oxlade-Chamberlain seeking a longer commitment than the short-term deal offered by the club.

However, it now seems that Celtic and Oxlade-Chamberlain are close to an agreement.

Football writer Fabrizio Romano shared an update on the player's status on social media platform X in a late post.

Romano said: "Celtic are closing in on Axel [sic] Oxlade-Chamberlain on free transfer, all set to be completed on Friday. Six months contract agreed with former Liverpool player."

Oxlade-Chamberlain started his career with Southampton before a move to Arsenal in 2011, where he won three FA Cups under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.

He moved to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in 2017, where despite various injuries, he made nearly 150 appearances across all competitions.

He contributed to their efforts in winning five major honours, including the Premier League, Champions League , EFL Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's last stint was with Besiktas, leaving the Turkish club in August last year.
