Liverpool have suffered just one defeat in their last 16 matches across all competitions and have been involved in several high-scoring encounters recently. Six of those 16 games have ended in draws, including three stalemates at home in the Premier League. Under Arne Slot, Liverpool have seen four of their last six matches feature over 3.5 goals, with both teams scoring in four of those contests as well.
The Reds head into this fixture on the back of a much-needed 4-1 home win over Newcastle United last weekend, which ended their five-game winless streak in the Premier League. Arne Slot’s side, who are chasing a Champions League spot, currently sit sixth in the table, two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United. However, the Reds risk falling further behind before they face Manchester City.
On the other hand, Pep Guardiola’s side are riding high after a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United in the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, sealing a 5-1 aggregate win and booking a place in next month’s final against Arsenal at Wembley. Despite their cup success, City let a two-goal lead slip in their 2-2 draw with Tottenham last weekend, leaving them six points behind league leaders Arsenal. With the title race heating up, Guardiola’s men cannot afford to drop more points if they hope to catch Mikel Arteta’s side at the top.
The Cityzens have lost only two of their last 19 league and cup fixtures, though four of their previous six Premier League matches have finished level. The Citizens have struggled somewhat on the road, winning just one of their last five away games in all competitions. Three of their last five matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals. Pep Guardiola’s side have only managed one win in their last five meetings with Liverpool—a victory that came in November when the Reds were enduring a difficult spell.
