Chelsea squad’s touching gesture to Mamadou Sarr ahead of potential Premier League debut

There is one new face amongst the Chelsea squad as a result of the January transfer window, although those Blues will be familiar with who exactly that is.

The only new player available to Liam Rosenior is Mamadou Sarr after the Blues made the decision to bring him back from his loan spell at Strasbourg.

This came as a result of them being unable to secure a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet. After weeks of chasing that deal, he ended up joining Liverpool.

Is Mamadou Sarr ready for his Premier League debut?

At the very least, the Blues will be getting a player who is up to speed with matches. He has made 18 appearances so far this season for Strasbourg in all competitions.

Sarr also recently returned from the African Cup of Nations, where he was part of the winning Senegal side alongside Nicolas Jackson.

He is now the only AFCON winner in the first team squad, and Chelsea made sure they honoured this after his return to the side.

The club posted a photo on X of the entire squad posing with Sarr holding a commemorative Chelsea shirt which has the player name ‘AFCON Champion’ and the number ’26’ to represent the year of Senegal’s victory.

It is a brilliant gesture from the Blues players, who will be keen to have their new player on board quickly ahead of a potential league debut for the club.

Rosenior has plenty of experience working with Sarr, and could look to include him in his squad to face Wolves on Saturday.

Chelsea’s high hopes for Sarr

The decision to bring the young defender back to Chelsea came as a result of a switcharound of their loanees. Aaron Anselmino has replaced him at the fellow BlueCo club.

This is likely a sign that the club see bigger things for Sarr than the Argentine, with his profile seeming to be exactly what they need right now.

Chelsea see Sarr as very similar to Dean Huijsen, who they made a strong effort to sign before he ended up at Real Madrid.

Levi Colwill remains absent at the back, although a positive for Chelsea fans was that he was seen alongside the first team squad posing with Sarr.
