Lewis Koumas admits he's come to Hull City to bounce back from a difficult first half of the season and play his part in getting the Tigers into the Premier League.

Koumas arrived at the MKM Stadium from Liverpool last week and immediately announced himself to the club's supporters with a well-taken winner at Blackburn Rovers nine minutes from time.

That strike on his debut capped an impressive cameo for the 20-year-old Welsh international, who spent the opening months of the campaign on loan at Birmingham City, and he added to his minutes on Tuesday night coming off the bench in the drab 0-0 draw with Watford.

Koumas admits the move to St Andrew's didn't go quite as planned, but that's behind him now, and he's joined up with Sergej Jakirovic's squad to try and deliver promotion.

"I'm here to score goals and help us with promotion, so it's a good way to start," Koumas told Hull Live. "I'm just really happy that that's the way it's went (getting a first goal). It was a tough first half of the season, but I'm here to bounce back and put it right in the second half of the season.

"Ultimately, I really, really wanted to come and play for Hull (City). There was a lot of interest, to be fair, but I felt like Hull was going to be a good place for me to come, and I've already settled in really well, so yeah, just really enjoying it and looking forward to it."

Like Toby Collyer, Koumas was on the verge of moving to City in the summer, before opting to link up with the Blues following their League One title win, but he says now was the right time to make the move to East Yorkshire, with the Tigers pushing for a place in the top flight.

"It was really close, but this was the right time, right time to come, and everything happens for a reason," he continued. "We're just, just focused on the next games, that's the most important thing. We're just gonna keep pushing on to ultimately try and finish the season going into the Premier League."
