Chelsea star somehow named in EFL Cup Team of the Round despite defeat to Arsenal

Chelsea’s excellent start to life under Liam Rosenior has taken a hit this week upon their exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Arsenal.

The Blues were defeated 4-2 over both legs of the semi-final, and Rosenior came in for criticism for their approach at the Emirates.

Chelsea stayed in the game with a very passive display until the hour mark, however the introduction of Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian didn’t have the impact the boss would have liked.

Did Rosenior get his tactics wrong against Arteta? 🤔

Hindsight is a wonderful thing…

The other attacking introduction on that day was Alejandro Garnacho, despite his poor performance last weekend against West Ham.

Alejandro Garnacho named in EFL Cup Team of the Round

It can be forgotten that the winger was the only real reason Chelsea were still in the tie. His two goals off the bench at Stamford Bridge made their performance look a lot better than it was.

It looks like that cameo in particular left a real impression, with the EFL naming Garnacho in their Team of the Round for the semi-finals.

The winger played just 52 minutes in the tie, and was the only Chelsea player named in the squad.

Arsenal had five players in the side, including Declan Rice who admitted he was impressed by Chelsea’s performance at the Emirates.

What changes would you make to our side to face Wolves?

Rosenior leaps to Garnacho’s defence

The first 45 minutes from Garnacho against West Ham was up there with one of the worst in the club’s recent history.

The Stamford Bridge crowd showed their frustration at his display that day, although his manager made sure he protected his player following the game.

Rosenior has defended Garnacho in the media, and we are predicting he will be back in the starting side to face Wolves on Saturday.

With Cole Palmer clearly still recovering to be back at his best, it remains to be seen if he will be risked against the Premier League’s worst side this season.
