Dominik Szoboszlai’s future has come into focus this season amid his contract expiring in 2028. The Hungarian star confirmed that contract talks with the club are already underway and no longer entirely in his hands.

Speaking after the recent league clash with Newcastle, the Liverpool midfielder admitted that he has made his position clear and is now waiting on the club’s response. “From now on, the decision is not in my hands,” he said, stressing that he loves the city, the club, his teammates and the Anfield crowd, and that he “would really like to stay” on Merseyside.

On the pitch, Szoboszlai has been the standout performer in an otherwise inconsistent league campaign, racking up 32 appearances in all competitions, with eight goals and six assists while excelling in multiple roles under Arne Slot. At Anfield he is increasingly viewed as a future captain, and his form has not gone unnoticed in Europe, with Real Madrid reportedly lurking on the side ready to try and entice the 25-year-old.

That external interest only strengthens the midfielder’s leverage as negotiations progress.

According to a detailed report from Hungarian outlet Blikk, Szoboszlai has now set out what it would take for him to commit his long‑term future to Liverpool. The article notes that he currently earns around £120,000 per week and sits only 12th in the Reds’ internal wage rankings, despite performing at a level above several better‑paid recent signings.

Blikk suggests the midfielder has “aimed” his demands into the bracket of Liverpool’s top earners, pinpointing a figure close to £300,000 per week – significantly higher than the £200,000 and £280,000 weekly salaries earned by the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak, who are used as reference points in the piece.

Crucially, the Hungarian report also claims that any new deal is expected to include a release clause, setting a defined minimum fee for which Szoboszlai could leave Anfield in future.
