It means Scott Parker’s side – without a league win in their last 15 games – are now 11 points adrift of safety.
On Saturday they face another Premier League struggler in West Ham, who sit five points ahead of them in 18th.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have improved in recent weeks though, winning two of their last three.

He’s overseen 17 games so far this season, dishing out 65 yellow cards and two reds.
Fourteen of those games have come in the Premier League, two in the Carabao Cup and another in the Europa League.
England famously came under the spotlight in 2023 when, on VAR duty, when Luis Diaz’s goal for Liverpool against Tottenham was wrongly ruled out for offside.
The decision was not questioned by England or any of his colleagues despite an “unusually quick decision” with no lines being drawn.
After the match, PGMOL released a statement admitting that this was a “significant human error” and that “VAR failed to intervene”.
England, along with assistant VAR Dan Cook, were subsequently dropped for their following Premier League fixtures.

What history does he have with Burnley?
This will be England’s first game involving the Clarets this season, although he has previously taken charge of two West Ham games.
He sent off Lucas Paqueta during the Hammers’ 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in November, as well as overseeing their 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat at Wolves at the start of the season.
He hasn’t officiated a Burnley game since March 2024, when he sent off Lorenz Assignon and gave a penalty against Vincent Kompany’s then side during a dramatic 2-2 draw at Chelsea.
He took charge of two other Burnley games that season: the 5-2 home defeat to Tottenham and the 2-2 away draw at West Ham.
Who is on VAR duty?
Matt Donohue, assisted by Lee Betts.
Scott Ledger and Akil Howson will run the line, while Andrew Kitchen is on fourth official duty.
