Bahamian National Basketball Association (NBA) professional players Chavano “Buddy” Hield and Eric Gordon are set to join new homes following the end of the NBA trade deadline on Wednesday.
Hield, who spent the last two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, was traded alongside forward Jonathan Kuminga in exchange for NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis, of the Atlanta Hawks.
The Grand Bahamian sharpshooter now joins his sixth NBA team since being drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2016.
Meanwhile, NBA veteran Gordon was moved by the Philadelphia 76ers along with a 2032 second-round pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Hield has played for the Warriors since 2024, and while he has had some success with the team, they have flown under the radar in the stacked Western Conference of the NBA.
While playing for the Warriors, the 33-year-old three-point specialist was playing a career low 17.5 minutes per game and averaged 8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 44 games played.
In addition to that, Hield is shooting 43.3 percent on field goals and 34.4 percent from deep.
One of the Grand Bahama native’s brightest moments for the Warriors came during their playoff run last season.
Hield helped the Warriors to close out the Houston Rockets with an historic performance in game seven of their first-round series.
He scored a game-high 33 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists, and picked up two blocks to help the Warriors upset the Rockets, 4-3, in the series.
Hield knocked down a historic nine threes in the victory to make NBA game seven history.
Both Hield and Kuminga were traded after the Warriors subsequently came up short in their bid to acquire Milwaukee Bucks’ superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.
As for Gordon, he has not received much playing time for the Sixers this season. In fact, he hasn’t suited up for the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ since playing against the Brooklyn Nets on December 23.
Gordon has only played in six games for the Sixers this season and was averaging 5.5 points while shooting 57.1 percent on field goals and 57.1 percent on threes.
The Hawks and Grizzlies were both active prior to the NBA trade deadline.
The Hawks sent star point guard Trae Young to the Washington Wizards before adding Hield and Kuminga to the roster.
Since then, the team also sent three-point shooter Luke Kennard to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Gabe Vincent.
The Grizzlies shipped out power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. along with Jock Landale, John Konchar and Vince Williams Jr., to the Utah Jazz for Walter Clayton Jr., Kyle Anderson, Taylor Hedricks, Georges Niang and three first-round picks.
The Hawks returned to action to face the Jazz at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, last night, but the result of that game was unavailable up to press time.
The Grizzlies will play tonight at 10 p.m. against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon.
