The New York Knicks seemed to have made a bargain signing this summer when inking Guerschon Yabusele to a two-year contract.
That said, his tenure in New York certainly didn't go as planned. Originally thought to be a valuable big man to supplement both Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson, Yabusele was expected to play many minutes off the bench.
However, Yabusele was only given limited playing time and didn't perform up to head coach Mike Brown's standards.
In 8.9 minutes per game with the Knicks, Yabusele averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds. A season ago in Philadelphia, Yabusele averaged 11 points and 5.6 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per game.
Yabusele recently commented on a fan's social media post, agreeing that his skillset was not properly utilized under Brown.
Following a trade to the Chicago Bulls Wednesday, Yabusele wasted no time suiting up for the Bulls Thursday in a matchup against the Toronto Raptors.
In Thursday's game, Yabusele proved his case against coach Brown, posting a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals on 3-for-6 shooting from three-point range.
Given Chiacgo's lack of frontcourt depth, Yabusele is likely to play extended minutes for the Bulls to end the season and prove himself worthy of an NBA contract next season (Yabusele reworked his contract to void the final year of his deal in order to facilitate a trade).
As he continues to perform, all eyes will turn toward Mike Brown for his handling of the rotation. In Brown's defense, Yabusele was brought in before he was hired, a move that he may not have advocated for if he had been in charge at the time.
Either way, it's clear that Yabusele is much more talented than he was able to display with the Knicks. Leaving a fair question: Did Mike Brown do all that he could to incorporate the French big man into New York's plans?
