The son of the former Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, could make his debut for England this week after being called up to the Three Lions' Under-15 squad.

Silva quickly became a huge fan favourite at Stamford Bridge after moving to the Premier League in 2020, spending just shy of four years with the Blues. The 41-year-old arrived in west London as one of the most decorated central defenders in the world following his exploits with the likes of AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as the Brazil national team.

However, the veteran star's 14-year-old son, Iago, could follow a very different path after linking up with England for upcoming games.

As per The Secret Scout, Silva Jr is part of the Under-15 squad that has been picked for a double-header against Cyprus and the United States. And the youngster is eligible to represent England despite his father winning over 100 caps for Brazil.

Residency rules allow players to represent non-birth nations if they have lived there for at least three years if they moved before the age of 10. If they moved after the age of 10, they must have lived in the nation for five years.

Iago was under 10 when his father moved to England to join Chelsea, who signed the youngster up to their academy.

It emerged back in October that Iago had been invited to St. Georges Park to link up with the England U15s. Sharing pictures of himself in an England kit at St George Park, the teenager wrote: “Proud moment to be invited to my first England camp. The hard work continues.”

While Iago could make his debut for England in their upcoming fixtures, he could still represent Brazil like his father in the future.

Current rules means players can switch their international allegiance to another country if they do not feature in three competitive fixtures or a major tournament.
