According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN, Harden was interested in reuniting with the Houston Rockets, but they had no interest in acquiring him.

"Harden was interested in reuniting with the Houston Rockets, sources say—a natural fit because their point guard, Fred VanVleet, had torn his ACL before the season. But the Rockets showed little interest in their former MVP," Shelburne reports.

Traded for Darius Garland, Harden is expected to boost the Cavs' title chances with his maintained productivity in scoring and playmaking. He and Donovan Mitchell have reportedly already talked and expressed excitement about their upcoming tandem.

This season, Harden is averaging 25.4 points, 8.1 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 44 games. The Cavs are currently fifth in the East with a 30-21 record.
