Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly discussed trading Lonzo Ball to Brooklyn Nets for Cam Thomas.
The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly explored a deal that would have landed them a huge scoring boost off the bench.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the Cavs discussed trading Lonzo Ball to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Thomas.
“The Nets looked but did not find a suitable offer for Cam Thomas. There had been talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a deal that would have sent Lonzo Ball to Brooklyn, league sources said, but that did not go far, and Thomas might not have stayed with the Cavaliers even if it had happened. Ball was shuttled off to Utah for cap relief,” Vardon reports.
Ultimately, the Nets decided to waive Thomas and find a new home for him after being unable to work out a trade before the February 5 deadline.
He would have become an unrestricted free agent this offseason after picking up his qualifying offer last year.
This season, Thomas is averaging 15.6 points (39.9% FG, 32.5% 3PT), 1.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 24 games.
The 22-year-old has spent all five of his NBA seasons with the Nets after being selected 27th overall in the 2021 draft.
