Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has said that his team are closing the gap on Arsenal, even though they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the middle of the week. At a fan event this week, the 41-year-old made the bold claim that the Blues can compete with the Gunners for the top spot in the Premier League in the near future.
Arsenal beat Chelsea in the second leg of the Carabao Cup at the Emirates Stadium, ending the tie in the Gunners’ favor over two legs. The Blues were tough in both games, and striker Joao Pedro got a lot of praise for how well he played in the semi-final tie.
Rosenior was filmed at the fan event saying:
“I think the biggest thing we learn [from the tie against Arsenal] is we’re not far away already. We’re not far away from competing with Arsenal. Obviously, at the moment, Arsenal are top of the Premier League. That’s where we want to be. And I’ll do everything I can, and the players will do everything they can to make sure we’re top of the league for many years to come.”
Arsenal are in first place in the Premier League table with 53 points from 24 games, and Chelsea are in fifth place with 40 points from the same number of games. While the gap is a challenge for Rosenior’s men, the former Hull City manager remains determined to achieve his goals.
Since Rosenior took over as head coach of Chelsea, the team have won six out of eight games. The only two losses were to Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-finals. Chelsea are in a strong position to qualify for the Champions League and are breathing down the necks of the teams above them.
Chelsea’s Dramatic West Ham Comeback Shows Liam Rosenior’s Title-Winning Mentality
Chelsea came back from being down two goals to win a great game against West Ham United. The win at Stamford Bridge showed how tough and determined Rosenior has been since he joined from RC Strasbourg in January.
The Blues were behind at halftime after a slow first half, so Rosenior took a chance and made three changes during the break. The tactical substitutions were brilliant and changed the whole game. Joao Pedro was the first Chelsea substitute to score and assist in a Premier League game since Ben Chilwell. Enzo Fernandez scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time, which sent Stamford Bridge into a frenzy.
The exciting win showed exactly why Rosenior thinks his Chelsea team can compete with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League. The West Ham comeback showed that they are trophy-worthy and are working hard to never give up, even when things get tough.
