‘I know he wants more playing time’ – Hansi Flick talks Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona future

Hansi Flick is not thinking too far ahead and wants Robert Lewandowski to focus on the end of the season before the striker decides his futre at Barcelona.

There has been plenty of speculation recently about what’s to come for Lewandowski, with the latest reporting claiming that Barça would be willing to bring him back on a one-year deal with reduced wages in the summer, and Flick was asked at a press conference on Friday if he wants Lewy to stick around for another season.

The coach gave a very Flick response, as he wants Robert to focus on enjoying the next few months and doing his best to contribute in the minutes he’s given between now and the end of May.

> “We’ve talked about his situation; we haven’t reached the end of the season yet, he needs to stay focused and enjoy it. I know he wants more playing time, but he’s doing things well and I hope he enjoys the current situation and the club. Now is not the time to talk about it and we all know the club’s situation, but I’m relaxed because we’re doing things right.”

Lewandowski has been relegated to a backup role but has still been very productive in his more limited role, and he’s been exemplary with his attitude to not create any drama about being an understudy despite his stature in the game. If he’s comfortable with being a backup again and accepts an appropriate salary reduction, there’s certainly no harm in having him on the squad for another season.
