Magic Add Ex-Bulls $19 Million Veteran After Trade Deadline

Jevon Carter has had quite a busy week. The NBA veteran guard was cut loose from the Chicago Bulls after they made a series of trades. He ended up being the odd man out as they needed to make room on the roster.

The 30-year-old has landed on his next destination on Friday. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Carter is signing with the Orlando Magic. The details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Carter entered the NBA in 2018 as a second-round, 32nd overall pick. He was selected out of West Virginia by the Memphis Grizzlies. After seeing the court as a rookie for 39 games, Carter was traded to the Phoenix Suns in an offseason deal. He spent two seasons with the Suns before making his way to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 via trade.

When Carter ended up with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2022, it was through signing with them. He spent one and a half seasons with the Bucks before signing a three-year deal, worth nearly $20 million with the Bulls.

Carter wrapped up a three-year run with the Bulls this season. He played in over 130 games during that tenure, coming off the bench as a reserve. Overall, Carter posted averages of 4.8 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.0 rebounds. He shot 34 percent from three.

This season, Carter's numbers were slightly up, as he produced 5.4 points, knocking down 41 percent of his threes.

The veteran will go from a rebuilding situation in Chicago to a playoff-contending team in the Orlando Magic. While the Magic are within the Play-In picture, they are still within reach of a top-six seed. At 26-24, the Magic are 2.5 games back from the Philadelphia 76ers, who hold the sixth seed on Friday.

Following a victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night, the Magic will get the day off on Friday. If all goes right, Carter will be slated to make his Magic debut against the Utah Jazz on Saturday.
