Alexis Mac Allister's father has rowed back from his previous comments about the Liverpool midfielder potentially moving to Real Madrid. Mac Allister still has over two years left to run on his Liverpool contract, yet has become the latest player to be linked with Real.

Real made a splash by signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from the Reds last summer and are also interested in defender Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires at the end of June. Their links with Mac Allister have come from the other direction, with the Argentine midfielder and his dad openly courting the Spanish giants.

“I read the rumours, but that’s all they were. There were no contacts," Carlos Mac Allister told Spanish newspaper AS in November. "In any case, it’s always nice when my son is linked with the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid is a very big club, but so is Liverpool, and we must be responsible and respect the institution he belongs to and that believed in him.

“I have to be prudent. He plays for Liverpool now. In the future, if the opportunity arises and it’s appropriate, he’ll have to make his own decisions. That’s what I’ve raised them to be. I have the freedom to give them my opinion, and they have the obligation to do what they think is best.”

Then, in December, Mac Allister himself spoke to the same newspaper when he made it clear a move to La Liga could be on the cards in the future. “Yes, why not? It is a country that I really like, and I have visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and culture it is very similar to Argentina,” he said.

“Without a doubt, I would like to play in Spain one day. But today I am very comfortable at Liverpool.”

Carlos has now tried to calm down the speculation around his son, who is under contract on Merseyside until June 2028 and is a key player for Arne Slot's side.

“What I can say at the moment is that Alexis is focused on Liverpool and the current season. Alexis is very happy and very comfortable at Liverpool,” he told Win Win.

Mac Allister, 27, joined Liverpool from Brighton in the summer of 2023 and has made 129 appearances for the club, with 17 goals and 17 assists. He has been a regular this season, making 34 appearances across all competitions.
