"I'm quite confident that we were selling high [on McCain]. Obviously, only time will tell," Morey said in a press conference on Monday, via Derek Bodner.
Morey was also asked a follow-up question on "selling high" on McCain and had this to say about the second-year guard:
"I think he has a tremendous future," Morey said. "That return is for a starter-quality player on a good team... The bottom line is Jared's a great future bet, and we wish him luck. We feel like this return sets us up better to build the team in the future."
The 76ers traded Jared McCain to the Thunder in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick (via the Rockets) and three second-round picks.
This season, McCain averaged 17 minutes, 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 37 appearances for the 76ers.
The 21-year-old guard with Filipino roots had a breakout season in his rookie campaign, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in 23 appearances for the 76ers before suffering a season-ending torn meniscus injury.
