Liverpool are considering offering Andy Robertson a new contract after pulling the plug on his Tottenham move

Liverpool could perform a spectacular U-turn on their plans for Andy Robertson after almost seeing him leave the club over the winter window.

However, due to Liverpool’s ongoing injury concerns, they pulled the plug on the left-back’s pending exit. Now, according to a new report, the 31-year-old could stand to stay at the club beyond the rest of this season.

Liverpool considering new Andy Robertson contract

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are ‘considering’ offering Robertson a new contract to keep him at the club beyond the summer - a significant change of mind compared to their previous willingness to sell him halfway through the season.

The Reds opted to keep Robertson on the books following Jeremie Frimpong’s injury. Their decision was also reportedly influenced by AS Roma struggling to sign a replacement for Kostas Tsimikas, casting doubt over his return to Anfield to replace Robertson.

The report claims that Liverpool are looking at handing the Scotland captain a short-term extension of ‘one or two years’ to tie down his important services. Liverpool value his ‘leadership and experience’ during this transitional period under Arne Slot.

Transfer interest remains in Andy Robertson

While Liverpool are considering offering Robertson a new deal, the outside interest has not gone away. Tottenham remain keen on the left-back following their failed winter pursuit and the north London club reportedly view him as ‘the perfect fit’ for their team.

Spurs aren’t alone in their interest either. Newcastle United and Aston Villa have also been mentioned and linked with Robertson, as both sides are said to be ‘monitoring the situation’.

Celtic are also in the frame. The Hoops are said to have ‘persistent interest’ in the Scotland international and the personal links could also be a tempting factor for the player.

Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan and the temptation of his career going full circle could be a tempting one. He started his early years in the Celtic youth set-up before being released and eventually moving on to his first senior side Queen’s Park.

After playing for Dundee United, Robertson left Scotland to join Hull City before his eventual £8 million move to Liverpool. He is coming up to his 12th year in England but the call of home soil could well be a tempting one.
