Liverpool have made their stance clear on rumours regarding a Trent Alexander-Arnold return
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s transfer to Real Madrid has not unfolded into the dream career move he had in mind when he left boyhood club Liverpool.
In fact, the 27-year-old has found himself struggling in the Spanish capital. Injuries have hampered his maiden season with Los Blancos and he has been restricted to just five La Liga starts so far.
Reports have already started to speculate over Alexander-Arnold’s future and a rumour even circulated last month claiming he had been told to find a new club this summer. This report has since been debunked but it hasn’t stopped the whispers linking him with an early exit from Madrid.
Liverpool and Trent Alexander-Arnold reunion not on the cards
TEAMtalk has provided an interesting update on Alexander-Arnold’s situation. Amid speculation that the divisive right-back could return to Anfield for a second chance, this report claims a reunion between the two ‘is not on the agenda’.
With Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong both on the books, Liverpool believe their long-term planning for that part of their defence is ‘already complete’.
Sources have told the outlet that Liverpool have ‘no intention’ of enterting any sort of conversation with Alexander-Arnold, even if he does become available this summer. Despite the injury setbacks to Bradley and Frimpong, the right-back duo are very much the focus of the future for the Reds.
“Trent is not someone that is currently being talked about at the club. And that isn’t a huge dig at him, but in Conor and Jeremie, they have invested and are happy with those options,” a ‘well‑placed Anfield insider’ told TEAMtalk.
“Could that change if he was on the market and available? Never say never in football, but is very hard to imagine that.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid disappointment
Alexander-Arnold is currently out injured and has been side-lined with a thigh problem since early December. He has been linked with a return ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Valencia this weekend but if he isn’t back, it will be his eighth consecutive La Liga match missed with this injury, and 15th in all competitions.
Prior to this setback, Alexander-Arnold missed a previous seven games with a hamstring injury. This means the right-back has missed more games than he has played this season, making this a troublesome start to his life at Real Madrid.
Alexander-Arnold is under contract with Los Blancos until 2031 but how the rest of his time there will unfold remains to be seen at this point.
