Arsenal are reportedly expected to launch a summer move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates on Deadline Day. Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg initially reported that the Gunners held direct talks over signing Tonali, but this was later dismissed by Newcastle sources.

Although no move materialised, there is a strong possibility Tonali could leave the Magpies during the summer transfer window. The Times reports that the Italy international is ready to leave Newcastle if they miss out on Champions League football next season.

The player’s agent, Giuseppe Riso, has also hinted at a possible exit. Both Arsenal and Chelsea are understood to be monitoring Tonali’s situation closely.

***FootballTransfers***have also provided an update on the midfielder’s future, claiming Arsenal are expected to make a summer move. Despite interest from several other top clubs, it is understood Arsenal are Tonali’s preferred destination.
