The New Orleans Pelicans have waived guard Dalen Terry, the team announced Friday afternoon.
The Pelicans acquired Terry from the New York Knicks on Thursday in the Jose Alvarado trade yesterday. It’s the second move in two days for Terry. He was traded from the Chicago Bulls to the Knicks Wednesday.
With the move, the Pelicans will now likely sign Bryce McGowens to a standard contract with the open roster spot. McGowens has been playing on a 2-way contract. Players on a 2-way contract can play in only 50 games. McGowens has played in 29 games for the Pels this season. The Pelicans will have 28 games remaining after Friday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
McGowens has shown plenty of promise this season. He his averaging 7.6 points, 2 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
Pelicans’ interim head coach James Borrego has been pleased with McGowens' play.
“Bryce has been steady all year,” Borrego said in December. “He’s earned these minutes. He’s not been given this time. He’s earned it. Every time he’s on the floor, good things happen.”
Terry spent all 3 ½ seasons of his career with the Bulls, who selected him with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2022 draft. The 6-foot-7 small forward started just seven games in the 204 games for the Bulls. He averaged 3.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in Chicago.
In addition to Terry, the Pelicans also received two second round draft picks and cash in exchange for Alvarado.
