Unseen Chelsea 16-year-old spotted in first-team training ahead of Wolves

Liam Rosenior continues to allow academy products the opportunity to train with the Chelsea first-team.

Chelsea are creating arguably one of the best pools of young talent in world football, having put an impetus on investing in promising teenagers and developing their own.

Reece James is one of the biggest examples in recent times. He was in the Chelsea system for 13 years before making his official first-team debut, joining at the age of six.

And there seems to be more than ever coming through the youth ranks right now. Names like Shim Mheuka, Jesse Derry, Landon Emenalo and Ryan Kavuma-McQueen are starting to be known.

Whilst they may not get actual minutes in the first team on a regular basis right now, it’s important to expose youngsters to that kind of environment.

Liam Rosenior calls up Reggie Watson to Chelsea first team training

Eagle-eyed Chelsea fans spotted Reggie Watson on X after the club released training images ahead of Wolves.

However, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be named in the squad for today’s clash.

Reggie Watson is a 16-year-old central midfielder who has emerged as one of the most exciting talents in the Chelsea academy. He is also the son of former Premier League midfielder Ben Watson.

Playing primarily for the Under-18s, he has an incredible catalogue of long-range screamers and free-kicks. But that’s not all, as he’s a very complete midfielder who can operate as a deep-lying playmaker or a traditional number eight.

He’s appeared for the Under-21s side, but is yet to feature in the first-team.

Chelsea’s midfield situation under Liam Rosenior

The Blues have been boosted by Romeo Lavia’s return to training, meaning that Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Andrey Santos are no longer left to carry all of the load.

Dario Essugo had been in the plans of Rosenior, but he’s suffered yet another injury.

Meanwhile, there was a central midfielder on the radar during the January transfer window, but Douglas Luiz ended up moving to Aston Villa.
