Flying high

Ahead of the weekend, Man City are 11 points clear of their local rivals at the top of the WSL table, having emphatically beaten Chelsea 5-1 last time out.

Andrée Jeglertz’s side have lost just once in the division this season and it was on the opening day in a 2-1 defeat away to Chelsea.

Last time we met, goals from Mariona Caldentey and Chloe Kelly weren’t enough as Man City won 3-2 at Joie Stadium.

Their positive form has continued in the cup competitions, putting six past Bournemouth without reply to set up an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Sheffield United, and finishing top of their Subway Women’s League Cup group.

The latter came by way of victories over Everton and Nottingham Forest, as well as penalty shootout success against Newcastle United.

They won’t be going all the way to the final though as, after knocking out West Ham United, Man City were beaten 1-0 at home to Chelsea in the semi-finals.

What the managers say

Slegers: "They also had a big boost in their win against Chelsea so I think it’s two really good teams going against each other, believing in themselves, so it will be a big contest on Sunday so we look forward to it, so we want and need three points.

"All we know is that this game we want to get the three points, and the league is really tight this year again. Of course, City have done really well with only one loss so far, so they’ve been amazing in what they’ve been achieving every single week, but yeah, we go for the win." - read every word of Renée's pre-Man City press conference.

Jeglertz: "We're a team that likes to spend time with each other on and off the field and that believes in each other. I’m not on the sideline telling them what to do, it has to be their decisions. They've come far in that, and feeling comfortable making those decisions.

"Every time we scored [against Chelsea], looking at the players... it’s a team who are enjoying playing together at the moment. When we celebrate the goal we also run to the keeper because Yama is doing a great action for one of Kerolin's goals. It shows something about enjoying every moment."

TEAM NEWS

Leah Williamson is available on Sunday having been close to a return against Corinthians last weekend. In goal, Daphne van Domselaar is ready to play while Anneke Borbe won't be available as she recovers from her injury in the Champions Cup final.

There's no confirmed return date on Taylor Hinds who has an ankle injury, but the swelling is reported to be going down well.

For Man City, Aoba Fujino got a concussion in the last game and isn’t able to play this weekend.

FACTS AND STATS

Arsenal vs Man City is the most played fixture in WSL history (24 times) where both sides have recorded the exact same number of wins (11 each, D2). We lost each of our first three home games against the Citizens in the WSL, but have since won six of eight matches, losing only once (D1).

Both teams have scored more than once in each of the last three WSL meetings between ourselves and Man City (8 goals each); no fixture has ever seen both sides score at least twice four times in a row.

We beat reigning champions Chelsea last time out on MD13, but we haven’t won back-to-back WSL matches with both coming against sides that finished the previous campaign in the top four positions since October 2018 (beat champions Chelsea and 4th place Reading).

We have kept a clean sheet in three of our last five league games, and could keep three in a row for the first time since January 2025 (5 in a row); we have faced two or fewer shots on target in each of our last five WSL games, with Man City between January and March 2023 the last side to put together a longer such run (6 in a row).

Alessia Russo will turn 27 on the day of this game, and will be aiming to be the third player to score on their birthday in the WSL for the us after Jodie Taylor vs Chelsea in May 2017 (31st birthday) and Stina Blackstenius vs Manchester United in February 2022 (26th birthday).

Only Mariona Caldentey (29) has created more chances from open play in the top-flight this term than Vivianne Miedema (27).

MATCH OFFICIALS

Grace Lowe has been appointed to take charge of Saturday's fixture. She has seen over seven matches in the WSL in 2025/26, handing out 17 yellow cards and no reds. The last time she was involved in one of our WSL matches was for last season’s 5-2 defeat away to Aston Villa.
