“I know my value” – Player never seriously considered Chelsea offer, pleased to snub Blues

Barcelona’s Fermín López never considering joining Chelsea in order to succeed at the Camp Nou.

Chelsea showed keen interest towards the end of last summer. Mundo Deportivo had then reported his entourage seriously encouraged Fermín to consider the Blues offer.

On January 9th, Marca reported Chelsea had offered €40m to Barcelona last summer. The same newspaper stated the 22-year-old ‘ignored’ the Premier League side’s offer.

The attacking midfielder’s decision to snub the Club World Cup winners has worked out well. He scored 10 goals and contributed 11 assists from 28 matches for Hansi Flick’s side this season.

Barcelona have rewarded him with a new contract until 2031. The Spain international spoke to the reporters and Cadena Ser have relayed his comments.

Cadena Ser highlight Chelsea’s failed attempt to snatch him away from the Catalan club. The player insists he didn’t consider the Blues or any other club as he only wanted to stay at the Camp Nou.

“I hope to make history at Barca, win many titles with my teammates, with the fans, and with the club. This is the dream I’ve always had,” he said.

Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo covers additional comments, Chelsea’s interest from last summer and the details of his new contract.

Chelsea move never under consideration

The newspaper claims the Barca player ‘never seriously considered’ moving to Stamford Bridge.

“I know my value as a footballer and as a person. The club believes in me, and I’ve never doubted that I want to be here for many years,” Fermín explained.

The player’s salary will rise significantly with the renewal. According to Mundo, he will roughly double his wages, and that can increase further with bonuses. The newspaper adds the new contract also includes a €500m release clause.
