Arne Slot blocked Liverpool January arrival– Reds deal ‘could happen in summer’

Jeremie Frimpong suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s Champions League win over Qarabağ FK last week. Arne Slot has confirmed he will be out for a few weeks.

Frimpong’s setback saw Liverpool make a late attempt to try and sign a new right-back in the winter market.

On January 30th, Gianluca Di Marzio reported Liverpool had approached Inter Milan to sign Denzel Dumfries. He didn’t leave the San Siro, and the Reds didn’t bring in a replacement for Frimpong.

Inter president Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed Liverpool called to ask about the 29-year-old. Calciomercato now relay his comments and then share their own updates on why the Premier League side didn’t end up signing Dumfries.

“Liverpool for Dumfries? Phone calls were also made inappropriately,” he said.

According to the report, Inter were willing to sell the Netherlands international to Slot’s side in the last window. The negotiations didn’t progress because of the Merseyside club.

Conor Bradley will be out long term after suffering a serious knee injury. Frimpong’s setback has depleted Slot’s options for the right-back position.

Calciomercato claim the manager asked Liverpool for a right-back who can start for them immediately.

The Inter defender picked up an ankle injury in December and is still on the sidelines. The report claims he won’t return until the end of this month. Therefore, Liverpool withdrew their interest as he didn’t fit Slot’s requirements.

In short, the Reds manager would have blocked his compatriot’s arrival at Anfield in the winter market.

Calciomercato’s title reads: ‘Inter, Liverpool-Dumfries could happen in the summer.’

Within the report, the outlet claim Inter are still willing to sell him after this season and he’s keen on moving to the Premier League. It’s unclear whether Liverpool will return for Dumfries.

It’ll up to his agent to ‘determine whether the Reds’ interest can be revived next summer.’
