Knicks suffer another blow as key player exits with ankle injury

Josh Hart left the Knicks game against the Pistons with a right ankle injury, adding to New York's ongoing injury struggles.

The New York Knicks injury troubles worsened Friday night as Josh Hart left the game with another ankle problem.

Hart, who has been managing soreness in his right ankle since a sprain on Christmas, grabbed a rebound midway through the third quarter, started dribbling, and immediately held his ankle in pain.

He went straight to the locker room and did not return. The team confirmed it was a right ankle issue but offered no further update.

Hart was already listed as questionable with a left ankle injury he suffered on Tuesday. The Knicks were also without two other starters in their 118-80 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

OG Anunoby missed the game due to toe soreness, while Karl-Anthony Towns sat out with an eye laceration sustained in Wednesday’s double-OT win over the Nuggets.

In 39 games this season, Hart is averaging 12.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 50.6% from the field and 40.5% from three. His absence adds to the Knicks’ ongoing injury challenges as they look to maintain their playoff push.
