Chelsea are now set to miss out on a player with superstar potential.
A player Chelsea were heavily linked with has decided what he will do with his future. The Blues had a very quiet winter transfer window, with loan recall Mamadou Sarr the closest they came to a new signing,
The Blues come up short in their efforts to land Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet, with the French club unwilling to sell during the winter window, instead agreeing a summer sale to Liverpool.
Chelsea didn’t appear to have any defenders high on their wishlist, and they were unable to find a cheap or loan midfielder. Instead they decided to recall Sarr and go with what they have, focusing on offloading players for the most part, with Raheem Sterling being cut loose and Axel Disasi among those who left on loan.
The summer could well be different, with Chelsea likely to spend to improve their squad, and it will be interesting to see how much of a say Liam Rosenior gets on those deals, with Enzo Maresca having seemingly had limited say on incomings and the timings of them.
One player Chelsea have regularly been linked with is Juventus star Kenan Yildiz, who has emerged as a top talent at 19 years of age. In fact, despite his youth, the winger has scored nine and assisted eight so far this season.
Yildiz was already tied down long term, with a contract until 2029, but transfer speculation emerged due to his terms not reflecting his importance as a first-team players. Sensing there could be a chance to lure him away with a big-money deal, the likes of Chelsea and others were being tipped to make a move.
But all that now appears to have been put to bed, with Juventus finally agreeing a new contract with the young attacker, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He posted on X: “Juventus reach verbal agreement with Kenan Yildiz and his camp over new long term deal. New contract will be valid for the next four years as Yildiz has agreed to put pen to paper with salary increased. He’s gonna be among the best paid players in the squad.”
Juventus signed Yildiz on a free transfer as a youngster from Bayern Munich, and it looks as though that will be an exit the German giants live to regret.
Rosenior on Sarr
With Chelsea having to settle for the recall of Sarr, Rosenior praised the decision, saying: “Everyone knows what I think about Mamadou, I think he’s got the potential to be a world-class centre-back,’ replied Rosenior when asked for his opinion on the 20-year-old's return to the Blues.
“I’m delighted he’s here and thank the sporting directors and ownership for supporting what I thought was the right decision for us and for him in his career. I see a growth in Mamadou, even his performance in the AFCON final. I see a growth in his physicality, I see a growth in his tactical understanding. Also, it was an area of the pitch I felt we could strengthen.
“He will get his opportunity, but he knows he needs to fight for it because we have got many outstanding centre-backs in our group.”
