Emery urges Liverpool to change Elliott deal

**Unai Emery has called on Liverpool to change the terms of Harvey Elliott’s loan.**

Elliott joined Aston Villa on last summer’s transfer deadline day but has found first-team opportunities severely limited with only seven appearances in all competitions.

The England under-21 international was recently drafted into the fold with back-to-back outings since his last appearance before that coming in early October.

Villa have [an obligation to make Elliott’s move to the Midlands permanent](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/60194-harvey-elliott-reveals-reasons-behind-liverpool-exit/) for a fee in the region of £35 million once he has featured 10 times for them this season.

However Emery has been reticent to use the playmaker even with injuries to John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara in his midfield department.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth, he signalled that Villa are unprepared to take Elliott on permanently and called on the Reds to reconsider the original deal.

“I spoke with him. We have been fair because there are two ways,” said Emery.

“One way is a sport, the second is business. We’ll be fair in case, because we are trying it.

“I told him, I spoke a few times with Harvey. Harvey, now I am opening the door to play with us, because he can help us. But it’s not only on my side.

“The other side is Liverpool, if they take off the clauses to play matches and for us to buy him.

“(I told him) ‘you are going to play here with us, it’s a sport decision’. But now it’s a sport decision and a business decision.

“My sport decision is still there – ‘you are deserving to play, we need your qualities in the field, you are going to play.’

“But in case, the clauses are still there and now it is Liverpool – they have the key.

“I told him. It will be fair for him in case Liverpool take off this clause.”
