With a host of injuries to Arne Slot's defence, Liverpool were in the market for an additional defender to join in the January window. Reports suggested that Liverpool were pushing to try and sign Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida, but a deal collapsed, with the Reds failing to bring in any reinforcements for the senior squad.

According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid are close to signing Liverpool midfielder Mac Allister ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Reds willing to listen to offers for the Argentina international. There's a twist in the potential move, with Liverpool only willing to sanction a sale if Madrid midfielder Tchouameni is included as part of the deal.
A deal would appear to be complicated, with Tchouameni hoping to stay with the Spanish giants despite interest from Liverpool. Mac Allister, described as 'world-class', isn't considered untouchable after a relatively disappointing season, a stark contrast to the performances he's produced last term when Liverpool won the Premier League title.
Tchouameni, described as a 'phenomenon', is currently a regular for Madrid, starting 18 La Liga games for the Spanish club so far this season. It's no surprise that he isn't looking to seek a departure in the summer, meaning Madrid could struggle to finalise the signing of Mac Allister.
