Did Lakers fire JJ Redick? Why NBA fans falsely believe 'breaking' news

The Los Angeles Lakers still have plenty of chance to do good things this season.

That's what made the news some fans stumbled across on social media this week particularly surprising.

A post showed that the Lakers have fired JJ Redick, the head coach.

Maybe there are still questions about the rotation, but that'd be a major surprise, right?

Yes, it would, and it didn't really happen.

Did the Lakers fire JJ Redick?

No, the Lakers have not fired Redick.

As of Saturday, Feb. 7, he very much remains their head coach.

The rumor began because of this post on X:

That is a fake post meant specifically to get engagement.

In fact, the account that posted it has the word "satire" right in its description.

These days, it can be hard to know what to trust on social media. But with news like this, if ESPN's Shams Charania isn't all over it, it probably didn't happen. And neither Shams, nor any of the other insiders, have shared any such news. It's certainly not real.
