The Saudi Pro League are ready to move on from the footballing icon.
Football in Saudi Arabia has shot into conversations across the globe, as more and more stars are moving over there to play their football.
What started as a place for players to see out their careers, we are now seeing more and more players in thair prime making the switch to the Saudi Pro League.
The quality of the league is on the rise, and it is becoming a popular destination.
Mohamed Salah has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
He would be the ideal signing for the league, but his continued loyalty to Liverpool has meant a move has not yet materialised.
In April, after his best year in England to date, he signed a new contract extension that also increased his current wages.
However, Mohamed Salah will be 35 by the end of his current deal and the time may well arrive for him to depart.
Whether he leaves before the expiry of his contract remains to be seen as the SPL consider him once again.
The face of the league, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been causing unrest after expressing his discontent at his side’s business in the most recent transfer window.
He believes that the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund favoured other clubs with their transfer policy and feels as if Al-Nassr were not allowed to strengthen thir squad as much as they could.
His fall-out has led to discussions of a potential exit for the 41-year-old this summer.
The Portuguese forward has a £43million release clause which becomes active this summer.
If Cristiano Ronaldo was to depart the club this summer, Mohamed Salah is firmly at the top of the Saudi Pro League’s list.
According to The I Paper, Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah are the two stars being considered to replace Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.
“With other big names leaving, we will look at lots of other marquee names in the summer.”
“Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes would be the perfect picks. Salah especially, given he would attract an Arab audience as a Muslim.”
“Either of those coming in, along with that younger talent, would be huge for us. And really soften any Ronaldo blow.”
Mohamed Salah voiced his own frustrations this season as his outburst at Elland Road over his lack of playing time and the way he felt betrayed has had its desired effect.
He has reconciled with the club and is back in the team being a starter.
As a result, the Saudi Pro League did not look to strike up a deal for him in January.
However, they are rumoured to try again in the summer and with long-term replacements for the Egyptian already lined up, it would be an approach that makes sense.
