The Uruguayan is not having the easiest time since departing Liverpool last summer.

Darwin Nunez’s unique style of play divided opinion during his time on Merseyside.

The striker was full of energy and resilience, but the raw nature to his game made him lack the cutting edge needed for a top Premier League team.

Amidst an immense summer of change for Liverpool, Darwin Nunez departed Liverpool on a permanent transfer to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Registering 12 goal contributions in 22 games, he started life well in Saudi Arabia, but a real spanner has now been thrown into the works.

Karim Benzema, who is infamous for his time at Real Madrid and for winning a Ballon D’Or transferred from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal during the January transfer window.

The Frenchman debuted for his new club this week, scoring a hat-trick in what was a dream start for him.

With the arrival of such a household name, Darwin Nunez has most probably seen a consistent route to the starting eleven blocked.

The former Liverpool striker is clearly not pleased with being a back-up option once again and has taken to social media to express his frustrations.

He has changed his Instagram profile picture to a plain black circle.

Nunez has been known to take to social media to air his discontent, as he often did at Liverpool when he was in and out of the team.

Being a back-up, just like he was at Liverpool, will not sit well with Darwin Nunez, and he will now be regretting his decision to turn down a move to Fenerbahce.

The striker reportedly turned the opportunity down to sign for the Turkish side on loan for the remainder of the season, saying he preferred to stay put and was happy at the club.

Now, with the arrival of Karim Benzema, that opinion has changed and his reaction on social media is a reflection of that.

The future of the Uruguayan at Al-Hilal now appears uncertain and journalist Fabrizio Romano has now tipped the striker for a return to Europe this summer.

In a recent YouTube video, he said:

“What I’m told is that Darwin Nunez is not going to Fenerbahce, there is not possibility on the player’s side.”

“I think in the summer there could be movements around Darwin Nunez, that could be an interesting story to follow, the return to Europe of Darwin Nunez but at the moment I am not aware of anything advanced.”
