Liverpool stance on re-signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid revealed - report

Liverpool are not interested in a move to re-sign Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer if he becomes available to leave Real Madrid, according to TEAMtalk.

The Reds battled hard last season to convince their academy starlet to sign a contract extension at Anfield, but ultimately failed and he moved to Spain at the end of his contract, with the Anfield club able to earn a transfer fee to release him early for the Club World Cup.

But Alexander-Arnold's time in Spain has been struck by injury and inconsistent form, and there has been speculation that he could be allowed to leave Madrid as a result.

Liverpool Won't Move for Alexander-Arnold

Alexander-Arnold is widely considered to be one of the best right-backs in the world when it comes to going forward, but defensively he has always been a bit suspect, which Madrid have found out this season.

The 27-year-old has made just five starts for the Spanish giants this season and that has led to several top European clubs, including Manchester City taking a close look at his situation to see if Madrid would be willing to let him leave after just one season at the Bernabeu.

However, should they be open to his exit, it has now emerged that Liverpool would not enter the race for his signature. The club signed Jeremie Frimpong in the summer as a replacement, while they also believe in Conor Bradley, and feel that a return for Alexander-Arnold would affect the plans that are already in place.

“Trent is not someone that is currently being talked about at the club," a source close to the club said. "And that isn’t a huge dig at him, but in Conor and Jeremie, they have invested and are happy with those options.

“Could that change if he was on the market and available? Never say never in football, but it is very hard to imagine that.”

Liverpool Right Not to Entertain Trent Return

While Alexander-Arnold is a Liverpool legend and is in the prime years of his career, it's definitely the right decision not to bring him back to the squad just a year after he left.

The defender has struggled with fitness and performances, and the fans and team have now moved on from him. Obviously it won't be ideal to see him potentially sign for a rival, given his quality, but Liverpool shouldn't be signing players just to stop other teams doing so.

The club can appreciate what he did for them from a distance, but admit that his time has gone now, and bringing him back would just lead to more issues down the line.
