Liam Rosenior gives Reece James injury update and names the game when captain could return

It was a nice day out for Chelsea at Molineux today, with the Blues tearing Wolves apart with three first half goals and then cantering to the finish line.

It was a great day for Cole Palmer too – he bagged a hattrick and looked delighted, as you’d expect. But there was one slightly worrying thing for the team – the absence of Reece James. Having missed Tuesday’s Arsenal game with just a “small knock”, we were all expecting him to be back today. But he wasn’t in the squad at all, raising concerns that he had picked up something more serious.

But Liam Rosenior has just come into the post-match press conference and given some very comforting news:

“He’s so close [to a return],” the Chelsea boss said.

“He should be fit for Tuesday [when Chelsea face Leeds]. It’s not a major problem at all. It’s a knock. Pain management issue. He was out running yesterday.”

That’s superb. We didn’t need Reece today in the end, and in fact perhaps this week without playing will be good for him in the rest of the season. A lot of the first team played both against Arsenal and today, and will struggle to complete another 90 against Leeds.

James, on the other hand, has had a nice break.

In other news…

Cole Palmer bagged a first half hattrick for Chelsea, two penalties and then a driven finish into the roof of the net. It’s just what we wanted for the attacker as he looks to pick up his form.

Chelsea’s striker today is Joao Pedro, with Liam Delap on the bench. We’re hearing the first whispers about Delap potentially being up for sale in the summer if things don’t improve for him.
