Cole Palmer hits hat-trick as Chelsea beat bottom-placed Wolves 3-1

Chelsea recorded a fourth consecutive Premier League victory under Liam Rosenior as Chelsea defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.

In the 13th minute, Chelsea were awarded a penalty by referee Jarred Gillett after João Pedro was brought down in the area by Matt Doherty.

Cole Palmer stepped up for the spot-kick, and he converted from 12 yards, sending José Sá the wrong way.

Moments later, Chelsea almost doubled their lead when Andrey Santos found Malo Gusto on the right, and the Frenchman’s shot towards the near post was parried away by Sa.

However, in the 35th minute, the Blues were awarded another penalty after João Pedro was brought down in the area again, this time by Yerson Mosquera.

Palmer stepped up to take the spot-kick, and he sent Sa the wrong way again to score his seventeenth out of eighteenth penalty taken for Chelsea.

Three minutes later, Palmer completed his hat-trick when he met Marc Cucurella’s cutback pass, and the Englishman finished into the roof of the net on his 100th Chelsea start.

Nine minutes after the restart, Tolu Arokodare pulled one back for the host after Mateus Mane’s shot deflected off the post and into the path of the Nigerian, who finished past Robert Sanchez.

Moments later, Mosquera sent his header well over Sanchez’s bar as Wolves searched for a second and a way back into the game.

In the closing stages, the visitors pushed for a fourth but couldn’t get it as Neto found the side netting from close range before Liam Delap’s shot was saved by Sa.

Chelsea still remain fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Manchester United in fourth.
