Saudi clubs circling Mohamed Salah is not new.

But this time the situation feels more structured.

The Saudi Pro League is entering another recruitment phase after a major reshuffle.

The biggest trigger is Karim Benzema leaving Al-Ittihad for Al-Hilal. That move created a huge attacking gap in Jeddah.

Reports say Al-Ittihad coach Sérgio Conceição has placed Salah at the top of his summer shortlist.

Behind the scenes, the Saudi Public Investment Fund views Salah as the only player who can deliver both sporting impact and marketing power on the level of Cristiano Ronaldo.

From Liverpool’s point of view, the timing is uncomfortable.

Salah is 33 and coming off a mixed campaign.

He has four Premier League goals and five assists this season.

He has also spent more time on the bench than in any previous year at Anfield.

Yet he still passed the 250-goal mark for the club, underlining his legacy.

Saudi interest is therefore not just about form. It is about stature. Salah remains one of the most recognisable forwards in world football.

For Saudi clubs trying to build global reach, that matters.

The wider background is simple.

Whenever an elite player becomes available, the Saudi League is mentioned. That reflects the league’s ambition.

It also shows why Salah’s name keeps resurfacing as Benzema’s exit reshapes the market.

A Saudi Pro League official, speaking to Winwin, addressed the speculation around Mohamed Salah’s potential move, saying, “It’s important to consider all available opportunities and evaluate them based on the technical quality players bring and the economic value they generate in terms of broadcasting and sponsorship rights.”

He added that the league’s growing reputation is now influencing how transfer rumours are perceived, “We’re in an excellent position because one of the best things the Saudi League has achieved in recent years is that whenever a player becomes available, people say the Saudi League will consider signing him.”

The official stressed that this perception is a positive reflection of the league’s ambition, “This isn’t a negative thing.”

“On the contrary, it indicates that everyone is now aware that we are present in the market, monitoring players, evaluating options, and making our decisions.”

He also praised the league’s recruitment structure, highlighting the role of Michael Emenalo “Michael Emenalo has done a fantastic job in the league discovering talent and helping bring them to Saudi Arabia, and we hope to continue this approach.”

From Liverpool’s perspective, this is about protecting a club legend while managing reality.

Salah remains contracted until 2027.

But Saudi interest is no longer theoretical.

With Benzema gone and Al-Ittihad searching for a marquee forward, the door is clearly open.

Whether Liverpool choose to walk through it is the question that now defines the summer ahead.
