DB Hooper Resurfaces in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Clippers have signed Dalano Banton to a 10-day contract, The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported on Saturday morning.

The former Portland Trail Blazers guard was signed to a training camp deal by the Dallas Mavericks this past summer in free agency. The Mavericks then waived Banton in October after one preseason game, but he remained with the organization’s G League affiliate, the Texas Legends.

In 18 regular season appearances for the Legends, the 6-foot-8 Banton averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 41.8% from the field and 28.8% from beyond the arc (although he did shoot 36.3% on 3s in 14 games during the Tip-Off Tournament). Banton’s scoring average was good enough for fifth-best in the G League. He also dropped a 40-point, 12-rebound, 10-assist triple-double for the Legends in December.

Now, Banton, 26, will get a brief shot with the new-look Clippers, who recently parted ways with James Harden and mainstay Ivica Zubac.

Banton, known by the nickname DB Hooper during his Rip City days, made 97 appearances with the Blazers over the previous two seasons after being acquired from the Boston Celtics in February 2024. He averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 20.6 minutes per game while shooting 39.9% from the field during his time in Portland.
