The big man was a late scratch as he was ruled out to play with right knee soreness. Jaxson Hayes enters as the team's starting center in San Francisco this weekend.
It was an intriguing development for the Lakers around Ayton. As such, the big man's status will continue to be monitored heading to their next game against the OKC Thunder on Monday.
Ayton is averaging 13.4 points and 18.4 rebounds in 45 games this season for LA. He is shooting 67.6 percent from the field, the second-best this year just behind Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert.
Drew Timme and Maxi Kleber will also obtain increased minutes for the Lakers with Ayton being sidelined.
