Kristaps Porzingis eager to play with Warriors star, fit to Golden State system

Porzingis is simply excited to play as a Warrior and be around Stephen Curry.

Kristaps Porzingis is fully confident that he will fit like a glove in the Golden State Warriors' philosophy and rotation.

But out of his continued absence and delayed debut, the new franchise star completely understands that it would take him and the Dubs some time to fully integrate with each other.

"I feel like I’m the type of player that can fit into any kind of offense, so I expect it to be pretty smooth," he told reporters in his first media address as a Warrior. "We’ll see, of course, it takes a little bit of time to get adjusted to everybody, to get used to how I like to play and where I like to get the ball, but I think these guys are very experienced.

"They’ve played at a high level for a long time, so I believe it’ll be easy, and I’ll also be able to learn from them."

Porzingis arrives in the Bay Area as the Dubs' lone trade deadline acquisition, which meant the departure of Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks.

Ever since Porzingis's Boston Celtics days, the Warriors have been monitoring Porzingis in the market. As such, they've been bullish enough about his complementary skill set as a towering 7-foot-3 center who has the ability to stretch the floor.

But despite the unicorn-like traits, health remains a huge question mark for the Latvian sensation. Particularly this season, Porzingis only played 17 games so far due to illness and multiple injury issues. He hasn't played since Jan.7 due to left Achilles tendinitis.

But health-wise and under the care of the team's medical staff, Porzingis sounds highly spirited that he can dust off doubts regarding his availability.

"I'm in really, really good hands," Porzingis said. "If not some of the best hands."

More than anything, Porzingis stands excited to share the court and play alongside Stephen Curry.

With Jimmy Butler out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, Porzingis is expected to step up and be the team's secondary scorer around the superstar guard. He is averaging 17.1 points in just 24.3 minutes this season.

"I’ve been a huge fan of Steph for a long time. He knows this. I always try to say what’s up to him after the game and tell him that just watching him from the outside, he’s unreal," Porzingis said.

"To play alongside somebody like that will be really cool, and I think it brings the level up for everybody when you have somebody like that on your team."
